SCORING A GAME OF NETBALL

A Scorer is required for each game of netball and Brentwood Netball Club wants to ensure that all supporters are confident and able to complete a netball scorecard should they be asked to perform the role. Below are the steps of how to complete a Netball Scorecard correctly.

A coin is tossed to decide who will start the netball game with the first centre pass. The team that wins the coin toss and then choose the first centre pass will start as EVENS.

An 'E' for EVENS should be written in the box under the team which will take the first centre pass and an 'O' for ODD should be written in the the box of the opponent.

In this example, Brentwood A has won the toss and will have the first centre pass.

Once the game has started, the Umpire will signal when a goal in scored with the correct hand signal (an arm straight up).

The Scorer should then add a goal to the team that has scored using the correct number scoring (a single line through a previous goal scored).

In this example, Brentwood A has scored 5 and Brentwood B has scored 2 goals.

The Umpire may also ask the Scorer which team has the next centre pass. The Scorer can work this out by adding both the scores together to find out if the total is an Even or Odd number.

In this example, the score is 5-2 and therefore the total comes to 7, so the team who is currently ODD will take the next centre pass which will be Brentwood B.

At the end of the quarter, both Scorers should confirm with each other and the Umpires that there is an agreement of the score.

The scores should then be brought down to the next quarter.

If the quarter ended mid-play then the team that were previously on EVENS now changes to ODDS and vice-versa.

If the quarter ended on a goal and the following centre pass has not taken place, then the EVENS and ODDS stay the same.

In this example, the quarter ended mid-play therefore the EVENS and ODDS switched and Brentwood A has the next centre pass (5+2=7 eg. Odd).

REMEMBER: - If IN play, CHANGE the way.

Continue to following this process for the remainder of the game.

Circle the final score at the base of the scorecard once the game has ended.

In this example, Brentwood A has won the game scoring 16 with Brentwood B scoring 9 goals.
